Background of the Study

Television news has long been considered a powerful medium in shaping public opinion, particularly in political contexts. In Nigeria, with its diverse cultural and ethnic groups, television news plays a crucial role in influencing the political views and behaviors of citizens, especially during elections. Wamakko LGA in Sokoto State has seen an increasing rate of political engagement, with television serving as a primary source of information for the electorate. As the nation approaches elections, the role of television in informing voters, shaping political debates, and influencing voter behavior becomes crucial (Usman & Sani, 2023). This study investigates how television news affects voter behavior in Wamakko LGA, examining the influence of media content on voters' decision-making processes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

In recent years, television news has played a significant role in shaping voter behavior, but its impact is often questioned due to the prevalence of biased reporting, sensationalism, and manipulation. In Wamakko LGA, television stations provide extensive coverage of political campaigns, yet the extent to which this coverage influences voters' decisions remains underexplored.
